CAIRO, Sept 3 (Aswat Masriya) - A criminal court in Upper Egypt's Sohag sentenced on Thursday 19 "supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood" to three years in prison on charges of inciting violence, protesting and promoting the ideas of the banned group.

Only seven of the defendants were present when the verdict was issued.

The case refers to incidents of violence that occurred in 2014.

Egypt listed the Brotherhood as a terrorist group in December 2013, accusing it of being behind a wave of militant attacks that followed the ouster of President Mohamed Mursi of the group. The group denies all those accusations.

A court has order also banned belonging the group, funding it or promoting any of its ideas.

Brotherhood supporters have continued to hold protests across the country since then.
