The electricity consumption in Egypt increases by 11 percent annually, 48 percent of which goes to houses, electricity minister Ahmed Imam said on Tuesday.

Around 200 million Egyptian pounds worth of fuel oil and diesel oil are used every day, the minister said during a speech at the Shura Council.

The state of lawlessness in the country prevents it from operating a number of electricity stations, he said.

Shura Council members had condemned the minister due to the continuous power cuts that take place daily.
