Six people were injured in Fayoum on Wednesday after fresh clashes broke out between supporters and opponents of the Muslim Brotherhood and its Freedom and Justice Party.

The clashes occurred during a march where thousands expressed their support for President Mohamed Mursi.

The two sides threw stones at one another, an eyewitness reported.

The injuries were mostly cuts to the face and the neck, a medical source said.

The police did not take sides at first, an anti-Mursi activist said.

They later set up a barrier between the two parties to prevent the clashes from escalating, activist Ayman Afifi said.

Scores of protesters attacked Fayoum city council two days ago in protest against appointing a governor who belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Last Sunday, clashes broke out in Fayoum between supporters and opponents of the Brotherhood and its party, leaving 78 people injured.
