An Egyptian prosecutor decided on Tuesday to release Refaa al-Tahtawi, head of the deposed president's office on account of being excluded from investigations regarding the violence that erupted near the Ittihadiya presidential palace last December, reported the state-owned news agency.

Tahtawi, who served when Islamist President Mohamed Mursi was in power, was arrested in August in relation to the clashes that erupted between supporters of the  Mursi and opposition activists outside the presidential palace, which had left at least ten people dead and hundreds injured.

The prosecution has referred Mursi and 14 others who belong to the Muslim Brotherhood to the criminal court on charges of being involved in the same case.
