CAIRO, Aug 23 (Aswat Masriya) - Dozens of policemen in Sharqiya went on strike for the second day in demand of improved working conditions and pay on Sunday.

The protestors demanded the payment of due incentives and raising the occupational hazard compensation, as well as contracting private hospitals to treat them and their families. 

The Director of Security in Sharqiya, Khaled Yehia said negotiations are ongoing to convince the policemen to end the strike, with the promise that there demands will be studied. 

The policemen escalated their strike in reaction to an attempt to disperse them by Central Security Forces. They picketed inside and outside a security building, the Sharqiya Security Directorate.

They also prevented a police official who came to attend the negotiations from entering the building.    

An eyewitness told Aswat Masriya that protestors destroyed the cement barricade outside the directorate and rejected all warnings that force might be used.
