ALEXANDRIA, May 22 (Aswat Masriya) Egyptian security forces dispersed on Thursday a protest staged in support of activist Mahinour el-Masry, who is currently arrested, in Alexandria's Courniche Street.

A court upheld a two-year prison sentence and 50,000 Egyptian pounds fine against Masry on Tuesday for violating the protest law in December.

The police arrested a number of activists after dispersing their protest, according to an eyewitness.

The security forces also broke into the Egyptian Center for Social and Economic Rights to arrest more activists, the center said on its twitter feed, adding that the forces seized its contents.

Seventeen local human rights organizations have issued a joint statement condemning the verdict against Masry and asking the government to review the protest law.
