SHARQIYA, Feb 25 (Aswat Masriya) An Egyptian policeman was wounded when unknown armed assailants fired shots at him in Sharqiya early on Tuesday.

Egyptian television said that gunmen on a motorcycle fired shots at Colonel Mohamed al-Mehlawy while he was walking near the Zaqazeeq Centre, before running.

The colonel received a shot to the leg, but is now in stable condition. He was sent to a local hospital.

This is the sixth time a security personnel has been targeted in the governorate, with the last incident being on Monday when an officer received a shot to the head.

Attacks on security personnel have increased since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.
