CAIRO, July 26 (Aswat Masriya) - An army spokesman said that 12 extremists were killed in a crackdown on North Sinai on Friday.
Five militants were killed after the army bombed a SUV vehicle in Sheikh Zoueid, said Brigadier-General Mohamed Samir.
Seven others were killed during a shootout with security forces, the spokesman stated.
Army forces also arrested 11 extremists in the shootout and destroyed five vehicles and 12 motorcycles belonging to extremists, he added.
Army and police forces have been cracking down on extremists and militants that have been targeting security elements and installations in Sinai since the ouster of former President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013.
