Four people were injured in clashes that broke out on Friday between supporters of former President Mohamed Mursi and Suez residents.

As a group of Mursi supporters marched to al-Arba'een Square, one pro-Mursi demonstrator assaulted a man who held a banner carrying army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's picture, an Aswat Masriya eyewitness reported.

Around 400 demonstrators who support Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood chanted slogans against the army and the police, prompting a group of Suez residents to chant against the Brotherhood and the former president.

Clashes then erupted between the two parties. Four people were injured, one of whom was shot and taken to the Suez General Hospital.

The pro-Musi protesters smashed a number of cars and a coffee shop in Teraa Square.
