Security forces fired teargas bombs to disperse supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi in Alexandria on Friday afternoon, Aswat Masriya correspondent reported.

The pro-Mursi protesters marched from al-Azeema Mosque in Sidi Beshr and from Abu Seliman area to denounce the rule of the military and demand the release of female students who were recently arrested in Alexandria.

Hundreds of Mursi's allies marched in Borg al-Arab area in Egypt's North Coast. Mursi is currently detained at al-Gherbaneyat Prison in Borg al-Arab.

Security forces intensified their measures at entrances and roads leading to the prison for fear of attempts by the Muslim Brotherhood to break into it.

"The march is not near the prison. It is impossible for anyone to come close to the prison's perimetres because we have put a tight security plan," said Major General Amin Ezz Eldin.

In a separate incident, hundreds rallied at al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque to urge army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to run for president.

The demonstrators carried pictures of Sisi while chanting slogans to express their support for him.
