CAIRO, Jan 20 (Aswat Masriya) - Hunger-striking detainee Mohamed Soltan's physical and psychological health have "severely deteriorated", his family said in a statement on Tuesday.

The sister of Soltan, Sara Mohamed, added that they received reports concerning her brother's significant health setback, in the statement published on her Facebook account.

Meanwhile, Prison Authority Head, Mohamed Ali Hussien, told Aswat Masriya that Soltan is currently at the Tora prison hospital, and his health condition is stable.

The authorities keep pressuring Soltan to break his strike and isolate him from the rest of the prisoners, the statement read. We call on all rights groups and the United States to work on releasing him immediately, the family said, "terrified" at the treatment of their son.

Egyptian-American national Soltan has been on hunger strike for nearly a year; his life is believed to be in danger. He is the son of jailed Muslim Brotherhood leading figure Salah Soltan.

Soltan is being tried alongside his father, the Muslim Brotherhood's Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie and 48 others for managing an "operations room" following the dispersal of the two pro-Mursi camps in August 2013. The defendants are accused of using the operations room to "resist the state and spread chaos."

According to the family, Soltan, who suffered multiple heart attacks and loss of consciousness, has agreed to take in simple liquids to preserve his health at their request.
