CAIRO, Aug 28 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt welcomed on Thursday a Security Council decision to resolve the crisis in Libya, which imposes a ban on arms shipped to rivial militias in the conflict-torn country, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

The Security Council's resolution, adopted on Wednesday, allows Libya's neighbouring countries - which includes Egypt - to bar shipments heading to Libya and dispose of them if they have any prohibited items or weapons.

Cairo hosted on Monday the Fourth Ministerial Meeting for the Neighbouring Countries of Libya, where the foreign ministers of Egypt, Libya, Tunisa, Algeria and Sudan discussed the latest wave of unrest in the country.

Libya's neighbours called for the "gradual" disarmament of warring militants in the North African country, with regional sponsorship and international support.

Egypt has addressed the Arab League, Security Council and the African Union to officially present the initiative by Libya's neighbouring countries, the Foreign Ministry said.

Egypt will also present its initiative in a ministerial meeting on Libya's situation in Madrid on September 17.

Flights to and from Tripoli stopped on July 13, following the worst wave of violence in Libya since the overthrow of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
