NEW VALLEY, Sept 14 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb launched on Sunday a new 90-kilometre road to the Farafra Oasis in the southern New Valley governorate.

The road would connect the Farafra Oasis to the Ain Dala region and the Siwa Oasis. It is part of the National Roads Project.

The project is being implemented by the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, the defence ministry, the housing ministry and the transportation ministry. It involves the construction of 40 roads, including 15 roads as a first phase; 4000 kilometres long at the cost of 38 billion Egyptian pounds.

Mehleb visited a number of areas suitable for agriculture and reclamation within the Farafra Oasis. The visit was attended by a number of investors and businessmen, according to a cabinet statement released on Sunday.

Egyptian authorities are currently working on a new border demarcation plan which would involve the introduction of a new governorate combining the Western Sahara oases of Farafra and Bahariya.
