A Cairo court on Wednesday acquitted seven policemen of charges of killing protesters outside a police station on a day dubbed "Friday of Rage", during the uprising that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.

The public prosecution had referred the defendants to a criminal court on charges of killing one protester and attempting to kill 11 others, during the uprising.

The “Friday of Rage” is considered a turning point in Mubarak’s rule as hundreds of thousands took to the streets, demanding his ouster. Many protesters were killed that day.

Most policemen accused of killing protesters during the 18-day uprising, where over 800 people were killed, have been acquitted due to lack of evidence.
