CAIRO, Sept 23 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb amended on Monday a cabinet decision governing the National Council for Disability Affairs (NCDA) in a manner which puts the council under the supervision of the ministry of social solidarity.

The NCDA would also have legal personality and will be under the umbrella of the cabinet, as per the new amendment.

The amendment was condemned by the yet to be launched Popular Current Party. The party said in a statement released on Tuesday that the decision "marginalises" the NCDA's role and equates it with other civil society organisations supervised by the social solidarity ministry.

Hossam al-Massah, the council's secretary general, resigned from his post on Wednesday in protest over putting the council under the social solidarity ministry's supervision.

Massah said in his resignation that "the state does not respect disability nor the NCDA, which was proven by the decision to make the council fall under the social solidarity ministry, which is unconstitutional."

"It is sad for the council to receive such a decision without due notice," Massah said.
