PEC: Unprecedented turnout during first day of expat voting

CAIRO, May 15 (Aswat Masriya) - The first day of voting for Egyptian expatriates has witnessed an unprecedented turnout especially in the Gulf countries, the Presidential Election Commission (PEC) said on Thursday.
Egyptians living abroad have started casting their votes in the first presidential elections held after the ouster of former President Mohamed Mursi.
In a statement it issued, the PEC said that poll stations abroad opened their doors to voters on time according to the local time of every country.
The campaign of presidential contender Hamdeen Sabahi has detected some violations during Thursday's voting process, said Mona Amer, an Egyptian expatriates committee official for Sabahi's campaign.
One of the prominent violations was campaigning for the rival candidate inside the poll stations, the PEC stated.
Voting for expatriates continues for four days and ends on 18 May in 141 subcommittees in 124 countries.
