CAIRO, Aug 14 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's Health Ministry pronounced 11 people dead and 302 others injured on Friday due to the increased temperatures on Thursday, raising the death toll to 87 this week.

All the deceased were elderly citizens, the ministry said in a statement. The 302 others sustained "heat stress" injuries and were transferred to hospitals.

At least 142 were later discharged from hopsitals following health improvement, the ministry added.

Egypt has been hit by brutal heat this summer, especially in the past few weeks.

The Health Ministry continuously warns senior citizens and people with chronic diseases, calling on them to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, particularly at noon and to take protective measures.
