Egyptian authorities and Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement set security plans following discussions between them to avoid a repeat of any attacks similar to the one that claimed the lives of 16 Egyptian soldiers in Rafah earlier in August, the London-based al-Hayat newspaper has reported Egyptian and Palestinian sources which it did not name as saying.
Egyptian officials discussed a number of issues with the Palestinian delegation that visited Cairo last week.
Chief among these issues are the Sinai attack that targeted the Egyptian soldiers and the tunnels spread on the borders between the Egyptian and the Palestinian Rafah.
Egypt’s officials and Hamas movement formed a joint security committee to follow up with investigations in the Rafah attack.
The Palestinian security delegation included prominent leader in Ezz ad-Din al-Qassam brigades Ahmed al-Gaabari, security advisor to the former government Ayman Taha and deputy head of the movement’s politburo Moussa Abu Marzouq, the newspaper added.
