A State Security conscript was injured as the authorities thwarted a smuggling attempt in North Sinai on Monday morning. 

State Security forces were monitoring the area when a group of people were caught in a smuggling attempt, reported the state news agency. 

The two sides exchanged fire, injuring Mohamed Hassan Ahmed who sustained a bullet wound among other injuries. 

The agency did not specify what substance was being smuggled or whether it was going into or outside of Egyptian borders. 

The general prosecutor has received a report of the case and is taking the necessary legal procedures in accordance with the law.
