CAIRO, Feb 23 (Aswat Masriya) - The terrorism circuit of the Zagazig Court sentenced on Monday 45 defendants accused of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood to five years in prison over violence charges.

The prosecution referred the defendants to court over a set of charges including "joining a terrorist group, violating the protest law, inciting riots and violence and resisting authorities."

The Zagazig Criminal Court's terrorism circuit is also set to issue its verdict against 44 defendants on Tuesday, including Jihadist Adel Habbara and seven of his aides, in six violence cases.

Habbara and six others were sentenced to death last December for killing 25 soldiers in North Sinai's border town of Rafah in August last year.

Egypt listed the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation in December 2013 and insists it is behind the wave of militancy which has targeted security personnel since July 2013. The Brotherhood continuously denies the accusations.
