CAIRO, Mar 15 (Aswat Masriya) - President Adli Mansour held a meeting on Saturday with the National Defence Council, hours after six military officers had been killed in an attack on a police checkpoint, a presidency statement said.

Unidentified gunmen shot six army officers dead earlier today at a military police checkpoint near Cairo.

The statement mourned the army's dead.

The council discussed ongoing efforts to combat and uproot terrorism in light of Egypt's commitment to protect its citizens and maintain societal peace, the statement said.

It also included talks on arrangements and security measures to secure the coming presidential elections and hold them in a secure, calm atmosphere.
