CAIRO, April 19 (Aswat Masriya) - Prosecutor-General Hisham Barakat has referred 25 Muslim Brotherhood members to criminal court on charges of kidnapping and torturing two of the Tamarod Movement members in Minya.

Brotherhood elements kidnapped two people who were part of a march in Minya and detained them to a Freedom and Justice Party headquarters, Barakat said in a statement.

The two, both of whom members of Tamarod, were tortured until the police were able to free them from captivity, he added.

Tamarod Movement was formed to gather support across the country to demand the removal of former President Mohamed Mursi, who belonged to the Brotherhood, from power.

The prosecution charged the defendants with detaining the two Tamarod members, physically torturing them, causing a permanent disability for one of them, and possessing arms.

Investigations revealed that the defendants had previously planned the kidnapping of several Tamarod members in order to terrorise group members and citizens.

Of the 25 defendants, seven were arrested and referred to court while an arrest warrant was issued for the other 18.
