The goal of Friday's protests is to force "those who lead the army's coup and their supporters" to backtrack on their stance and to reverse the army's overthrow of the elected president, the Freedom and Justice Party’s deputy head said.

Egypt's future is determined by the people not by a "rebel group", Essam al-Erian added.

The National Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy, an alliance grouping pro-Mohamed Mursi powers, had called on Egyptians to mark the 10th of Ramadan (July 17) as a victory by participating in demonstrations that deafen "those who lead the army's coup and their supporters" to demand Mursi's return to power.

In a statement on Facebook, Erian said, "Today is a memorable day. Our goal is to reverse the coup, force the leaders of the army's coup to backtrack and force their supporters to change their stance by rallying peacefully in all of Egypt's squares."

"Threats will not terrorize the people," he stated.

"Police follies and oppression tools did not save Mubarak."
