CAIRO, Mar 10 (Aswat Masriya) - Two people were killed in the early hours of Tuesday when an improvised explosive device they were carrying exploded in Fayoum to the southwest of Cairo, security sources said.

The sources told Aswat Masriya that the two who were killed had attempted to plant the bomb outside a security checkpoint.

The sources added that no civilians or security personnel were killed in the blast.

Prosecutors have tasked a team from the forensic authority with identifying the deceased.

Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since July 2013, with most attacks targeting security forces in North Sinai.

However, attacks have taken place elsewhere in the country, including in Cairo.
