CAIRO, May 6 (Aswat Masriya) The Cairo Court for Urgent Matters banned leaders of the dissolved National Democratic Party (NDP) from running for parliament, municipalities council and presidency in a ruling it issued on Tuesday.

This court decision came before the parliamentary elections, which are due following the presidential ones this month.

The last parliament was dissolved in June 2012 by virtue of a court verdict.

After the January uprising that toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak in 2011, a court ordered the dissolution of his political party, the NDP.

The disbanded NDP had dominated Egyptian politics since it was founded by Mubarak's predecessor, Anwar Sadat, in 1978.

Similarly, the Court of Urgent Matters in Alexandria decided in April to ban members of the Muslim Brotherhood from running for upcoming presidential or parliamentary elections.
