Director of Investigations in the events of Port Said, Abdel Aziz Shahin, decided on Sunday to summon Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim for a hearing session on the outbreak of violence that occurred in Port Said on January 26 and 27.

Forty-two people were killed when violence erupted in Port Said at the end of January upon a court verdict that some residents considered unfair. Relatives of 21 defendants sentenced to death for involvement in football riots dubbed as the "Port Said massacre" that left over 70 people, mostly young football fans, dead last February, staged protests upon the verdict to express their anger.

Shahin also summoned the Assistant to Security Director of Port Said for Service Affairs, and the Prison Officers of East Port Said Prison and Arab Prison to appear for hearing sessions on the clashes, reported the Middle East News Agency.

The Director of Investigations decided to form a technical committee to compare the photos of the arrested defendants to that of the ones appearing in extracted photos from videos that captured the events to confirm who was involved.

He also ordered investigations of the General Security Directorate and the National Security Office.
