CAIRO, May 15 (Aswat Masriya) Egypt will apply the Daylight Saving Time (DST) starting Friday at 12 am, in accordance with a cabinet decision issued a week ago.

The decision came in order to alleviate Egypt's energy crisis, explained a cabinet statement.

The government said that the decision is linked to Egypt's economic conditions, which led officials to force frequent power cuts in order to ease the load on electricity consumption.

Egypt will not apply DST during Ramadan, a religious month that the Muslim majority of Egyptians observe through fasting.

DST was abolished three years earlier, following the January uprising.
