DAMIETTA, May 6 (Aswat Masriya) - A police conscript was killed early Wednesday in clashes between security forces and Muslim Brotherhood supporters in a village in coastal Damietta, medical and security sources said.

Clashes also left six injured, including a police officer and five civilians who were transferred to hospital, the sources added.

Security forces arrested 12 individuals following the clashes, said Damietta Security Director Hassan al-Bardeesi.

Dozens of Muslim Brotherhood supporters staged a protest in the city of Damietta late Tuesday, a statement from the governorate's security headquarters read. The protest soon evolved into clashes with security forces, which left 22 injured.

The military ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, prompted by mass protests against his rule, was followed by nationwide violence as Mursi supporters protested his removal from power.

Hundreds of Mursi supporters were killed in August 2013 in the forcible dispersal of two pro-Mursi sit-ins set up in Greater Cairo.

Meanwhile, hundreds of security personnel have fell victim to militant attacks targeting security forces and facilities since Mursi's ouster, especially in the Sinai peninsula.
