CAIRO, Nov 27 (Aswat Masriya) – Egyptian security forces fired teargas to disperse a protest staged in support of 21 detained Islamist women in Alexandria on Wednesday.

The women were arrested by security forces earlier in November as they attempted to stage a protest to back deposed President Mohamed Mursi before his trial.

The detained women, aged 15 to 25, stand trial on Wednesday on charges of disrupting traffic and vandalizing public property during their protests.

Nasser al-Abd, a senior security official in Alexandria, said that the defendants did not have permits to protest.

Their protests took place before the new protest law, which largerly restricts protests, was ratified. The new law requires that protesters notify the authorities of demonstrations three days prior to them.
