Egypt's state prosecution ordered on Sunday the arrest of Mounifiya's former Governor Ahmed Shaarawi on charges of inciting violence and killing demonstrators.

Shaarawi, who was appointed governor in the latest reshuffle conducted by deposed President Mohamed Mursi in June, was a leading Muslim Brotherhood member.

He was arrested in Suez following investigations by Egypt's national security device, which linked him to the killing of protesters.

The Egyptian security forces have detained a large number of Muslim Brotherhood leaders following the crackdown on their two protest camps in August.
