A Cairo court of appeals' judge renewed the detention of former President Mohamed Mursi and his chief of staff pending investigation in charges of collaborating with the Palestinian Hamas movement and smuggling prisoners from Wadi al-Natroun Prison during the January 25 Revolution.

The charges against Mursi include collaborating with Hamas to carry out hostile acts in Egypt, attacking police and military installations, breaking into Egyptian prisons and police stations, killing some prison inmates and soldiers, torching Wadi al-Natroun Prison, allowing prisons to escape, damaging prison records, and kidnapping some officers and soldiers, as well as escaping from prison.

Judge Hassan Samir also decided to renew the detention of Mursi's chief of staff Mohamed Refaa al-Tahtawi for 30 days pending investigation in charges of collaborating with Hamas and leaking confidential information to the movement.
