Egypt’s police arrested six men who opened fire on a march staged by President Mohamed Mursi's opponents in Shorouk City on Wednesday.

The attackers included members of Egypt's second largest political party, the Salafi (ultraconservative) Nour Party, reported the state news agency MENA.

Investigative police received a notice from residents who complained that they heard gunfire in one of the neighborhoods near Future School earlier on Wednesday.

The police learned later that six people, including one with a rifle, had appeared in a vehicle and blocked the protesters' march, which led to a confrontation that resulted in the injury of two of the Islamist president's opponents.

The police said that the attackers tried to escape and opened fire on their forces, resulting in the injury of the driver, but they were captured and the arms they possessed were confiscated.
