The board of state commissioners of Egypt’s High Administrative Court recommended the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party and the freezing of its assets on Saturday.
The board attributed its decision to the party being established on religious basis, which it said violates a constitutional decree issued in July of last year.
The board also said in its report that the June 30 uprising against President Mohamed Mursi did in fact disqualify his party in theory, but the legal proceedings remain.
The board's recommendations are not binding on the court.
