Egypt's naval forces on Wednesday detained a foreign ship carrying a large cargo of weapons at Ras Mohamed area in Aqaba bay.

The cargo was about to be transported using small boats near an Egyptian port, a military source told Aswat Masriya.

The ship was siezed and its crew members were arrested, the source said.

The ship's cargo which comprises a variety of weapons such as land mines, automatic rifles and hand grenades weighs 45 tons.

Investigations with the ship's crew, some of which are American and British, are underway to know who is behind the attempt to quietly bring in this shipment.
