Egypt’s army spokesman Ahmed Mohamed Aly said on Tuesday that border guards thwarted an attempt to smuggle arms and drugs into the country earlier today.
The spokesman added in a statement published on the army’s official Facebook page that border guards captured six sacks that contained 19 rifles among other arms and 190,000 “Tramadol” (pain killer) pills.
The case has been presented to the prosecution to begin the necessary legal procedures and deal with the confiscations, Aly added.
He explained that the operation came in light of the army's intensive efforts to secure strategic borders and block attempts that threaten Egypt's national security.
