At least 50 people were injured on Friday in clashes at the Suez governorate headquarters on Friday evening, undersecretary of the Health Ministry in Suez Mohamed al-Azizi said.

Most of the injuries were cases of people suffocation from teargas while the rest suffered cuts. All the injured were taken to the Suez General Hospital, Azizi added.

Six officers and army members suffered cuts and bruises after stones were hurled at them, military sources said.

Clashes broke out earlier today after a pro-Mursi march reached the governorate headquarters and began hurled stones and teargas canisters at the army forces.

The army retaliated with firing blanks in the air to disperse the protesters.

An Islamist leader in Suez declared a sit-in in front of the governorate headquarters until Mursi assumes power again.
