The Christian Brotherhood will announce its registration officially within days in a massive rally, Michel Fahmi, founder of the brotherhood, stated.

“The Christian Brotherhood is not religious advocacy group that aims at proselytizing; it is a group that aims at raising awareness of democracy and citizenship among people,” Fahmi said.

“The group will be subject to the state laws of NGOs and civil society associations,” he explained. Once the organizational structure is complete, the group will present its papers officially to the bodies concerned, Fahmi added.

“The brotherhood has nothing to do with the church at all because it is not a religious group; it is a group for awareness,” Fahmi emphasized.

“Attaining power is not one of the brotherhood’s goals therefore we did not establish a political party. We formed a group for awareness yet this does not mean the brotherhood cannot form a political party in the far future when democracy is established,” he said.

“The Christian Brotherhood will not clash with the Muslim Brotherhood. On the contrary, it complements the Muslim Brotherhood,” Fahmi stated.

Fahmi denies that the reason the brotherhood was formed is due to the rise of the Islamic current in Egypt and Mursi’s presidency.

The idea of establishing the brotherhood was there since 2010 and implementing it took time due to organizational reasons, Fahmi explained.
