Thousands of Islamists on Friday gathered at the High Judicial Council in a demonstration which the Muslim Brotherhood and some Salafi parties had called for.

The demands of the demonstrators included sacking Minister of Justice Ahmed Mekki and trying head of the Judges' Club Ahmed el-Zend and former Chief Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud.

The demonstrators chanted slogans supporting President Mohamed Mursi and called for purging all state institutions including the judiciary, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.

The demonstrators also demanded approving a judicial authority law and purging the media.

Before the demonstration, the protesters performed Friday prayers in the vicinity around the judicial council which caused traffic jams in Ramses Street and led to closing July 26 Street completely.
