CAIRO, Jun 22 (Aswat Masriya) - Al Jazeera's Ahmed Mansour was released from detention in Germany on Monday, the Qatari network reported, citing its correspondent.
Mansour, 52, is a senior Al Jazeera journalist who was arrested on Saturday in Berlin, ahead of boarding a flight to Qatari capital Doha.
The Qatari Al Jazeera said the dual Egyptian and British national was arrested at the request of the Egyptian government.
Last year, Mansour was sentenced to 15 years in prison for detaining a citizen for days and torturing him during the January 2011 uprising.
He was sentenced in absentia and has denied the charges.
Egypt has formally requested his extradition on Sunday.
His lawyer was previously cited by Al Jazeera as saying that his arrest was "politically motivated" and the Qatari network has urged his immediate release.
Egyptian-Qatari ties have grown tense over the past two years. Qatar was a strong supporter of ousted president Mohamed Mursi's regime.
In December 2013, three Al Jazeera journalists were arrested in Cairo and kept in detention for at least 400 days. They were initially sentenced to prison in June 2014 but now face retrial.
Mansour's arrest was crticised by the Committee to Protect Journalists.
"Egyptian authorities should stop pursuing Ahmed Mansour and his Al-Jazeera colleagues. Mansour should be released immediately," CPJ's Middle East and North Africa program coordinator Sherif Mansour said in a statement on Sunday.
