An army soldier in Sinai - Reuters
CAIRO, Nov 14 (Aswat Masriya) - One police officer was shot dead on Thursday morning in Arish, a Northern Sinai city, security sources said.
Unknown assailants attacked Abdel Moneim Sayed outside his home and fired 12 bullets at him, according to the security sources.
In a separate incident, armed militants attacked an army checkpoint in Arish's Maseed district, injuring one army recruit who was immediately transferred to the military hospital for treatment.
The Egyptian security forces have launched an intensive campaign in Sinai following repeated attacks on army and police personnel.
The attacks significantly increased after the military's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi on July 3 following mass protests against his rule.
