Egypt's Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim said on Monday that the ministry has prepared a comprehensive plan to secure Tahrir Square during the celebrations of the anniversary of the Jan. 25 revolution.

The minister stressed that there will be no security forces inside the square on the Friday celebrations and that the police officers are assigned to secure the protests. 

"Our mission is to secure all vital institutions in the country," Ibrahim said in the interview, reported by the Middle East News Agency.

He added that the officers in charge of securing the protests on Friday will not carry firearms, clarifying that "the police will only have teargas and sufficient tools to calm riots." 

Ibrahim stressed that his ministry has nothing to do whatsoever with any political conflicts, saying that "the police is a national body that serves the people, not the regime."

He pointed out that the rumors about the so-called "'Brotherhoodization of the state" are impossible to imagine, especially in the Ministry of Interior.
