Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, voiced his concern about the situation in Egypt on Friday and warned of the consequences of having major powers interfere to solve the crisis.

The interference of major powers in Egyptian affairs is the biggest threat Egypt faces, Fars News Agency reported Khamenei as saying in a sermon during the Eid al-Fitr prayer.

Egyptian-Iranian relations witnessed an unprecedented convergence during the past months since ties were severed in 1979.

Former president Mohamed Mursi visited Iran last August while former Iranian president Ahmadinejad paid a visit to Cairo last February.
