Cairo, Dec 13 (Aswat Masriya) - Supporters of the army and the Muslim Brotherhood staged separate demonstrations in Alexandria on Friday.

Alexandrians supporting army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the army staged a demonstration at al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque to voice their support for the constitution.

Carrying banners, they urged people to vote for the constitution in a referendum to be held in January.

Muslim Brotherhood supporters marched in four different areas in Alexandria in response to the National Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy's call for demonstrations.

Limited clashes broke out between residents of Ezab al-Bahr area and Brotherhood supporters after the latter had chanted anti-army slogans, an Aswat Masriya witness reported.

In Gharbiya, anti-Brotherhood residents dispersed a demonstration for Brotherhood supporters in al-Mahalla al-Kobra city.

Scores of the Brotherhood's supporters marched in Mahalla's Abu Deraa after Friday noon prayer while chanting against the army and the police, prompting area residents to chase them away.
