CAIRO, Feb 3 (Aswat Masriya) – A man was killed and two others were injured in an explosion in the coastal city of Alexandria on Tuesday, a security official said.

Alexandria Security Director Amin Ezz el-Din said blast was caused by an improvised explosive device; it occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.

The 26-year-old deceased man died inside a hospital hours after the blast occurred.

Alexandria ministry of health official, Ayman Abdel Moneim said the ambulances carried away three from the site of the blast, the deceased, his father and another man. Both are currently hospitalised.

Several explosions have rocked different parts of Egypt today, but this is the only that has caused casualties. Other explosions include one in central Cairo and one in North Sinai's Rafah.

Violence erupted nationwide starting last week, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the January 2011 uprising. Multiple explosions have been reported since.

Militants have escalated attacks targeting Egyptian security forces since July 2013. The Sinai Peninsula has been most heavily affected by attacks but other parts of the country have also been hit.

In one of the deadliest attacks in months, at least 30 people were killed and 50 were injured in four attacks in North Sinai last week.
