Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil has asked all political forces to terminate their sit-ins and participate in the December 15 referendum on a draft constitution written by an Islamist-dominated assembly.
Kandil's call was extended to both supporters and opponents of President Mohamed Mursi - gathered by the presidential palace, the Supreme Constitutional Court and in Tahrir Square.
The sit-ins were appropriate when there were no other means to express support for or outrage against the draft constitution and a decree issued by Mursi, Kandil said. He added that now that the decree has been annulled and a referendum on the charter is on the way, the sit-ins are no longer appropriate.
"Let each team express their stance and views through ballot boxes", the PM said, adding that polls are the legitimate mean to achieve desired goals, reported the state's news agency.
He insisted that the people are the decision makers as long as they have the freedom to resort to ballot boxes through democratic, free and transparent vote.
He reaffirmed his full respect for the right to demonstrate and for the strife of the masses to have their voices be heard.
