Ex-MP Amr Hamzawi called on liberals in Egypt to unite and confront a number of political issues which he believes are among the chief topics that will concern public opinion in the coming period.

On Twitter, Hamzawi numbered these topics as follows:

  1. Defending freedoms and the democratic law-based state in the face of a crackdown on journalists and media people and public and personal freedoms.

  1. Confronting the authority machine whose seekers want to manufacture a new dictatorship out of the elected president and which has already begun to penetrate the media and political fields and renew its activity.

  1. Challenging opinions falsely cloaked in religion that promote a new form of tyranny by banning and criminalizing demonstrating

  1. Initiating nation-wide awareness campaigns on the constituent assembly and the awaited constitution and the dangers its poses on civil identity and freedom.

  1. Peaceful public and political pressure on the Muslim Brotherhood to legalize its situation and on political Islamist parties so that they to stop mixing religion with politics and partisan activity.

Hamzawi urged liberals to unite, saying, “In civil and liberal parties and movements, we are getting ready and uniting for these causes and we need your support, you who want a democratic, civil citizenship-based Egypt.”
