Egypt's Pope Tawadros II said on Wednesday he will visit the Vatican's newly-chosen Pope Francis I at his headquarters in the Vatican soon.

The visit will be the first of its kind since the late Pope Shenouda III's visit in 1973.

Pope Tawadros met today with the Vatican's new ambassador to Cairo at the Orthodox Church in Cairo's Abbasiya.

The meeting included discussions about cooperation and dialogue between the Orthodox and the Catholic churches, the Middle East News Agency reported.

Egypt sent a delegation headed by Minister of Culture Saber Arab in March to the inauguration ceremony of the pope.
