CAIRO, Oct. 24 (Aswat Masriya) - Nidaa Misr coalition has announced its withdrawal from contesting the second phase of parliamentary elections Saturday, adding that it has already filed a complaint to appeal the results.

In a press conference Saturday, members of the coalition said that the alliance will not run for individual seats nor field a list in objection to what they described as an "electoral farce".

The coalition included the Egyptian Revolution Party,  the New Independents, Protectors of the Homeland and The Arab Party for Justice and Equality.

Hisham Anani, a leading figure in the coalition said that the decision to withdraw came out of respect for the members.

"The necessary measures will be taken to expose the violations that took place during the elections, which the media covered up," he said.

Amr Abdel Hakim Amer, who ran on an Upper Egypt list, said that the elections were not transparent or fair.

He criticized the media for its  "unprecedented bias" in favor of Fi Hob Masr (For the Love of Egypt) list, the brainchild of an ex-military intelligence general, which he slammed for presenting itself to the public as the only "nationalist coalition."

The Supreme Electoral Commission (SEC) announced last week that For Love of Egypt had swept the elections in Upper Egypt and the West Delta regions, raking all the seats allocated to the list system in the first phase of elections.

The first phase covered 14 provinces including Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, New Valley, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea, Alexandria, Beheira and Matrouh.

According to SEC the turnout rate was 26.56 percent with 7,278,594 Egyptians casting their votes out of a total of 27.4 million eligible voters.

Run-offs for phase one take place in Egypt and abroad from Oct. 26-28 while the second phase will run from Nov. 21-23.
