An Egyptian prosecutor has ordered that 36 defendants be detained for 15 days pending investigations into allegations that they were involved in confrontations that occurred by the Media Production City on Friday.

The prosecutor accused them of attempting to raid the city, vandalizing and torching the facilities and initiating an attack against security forces, using Molotov cocktails, stones and birdshot bullets, reported the state news agency.

They were also accused of possessing arms without license, attempting to kill a conscript and blocking the road.

The defendants have pleaded not guilty, insisting that they only came to express their support for Islamist President Mohamed Mursi who was ousted by the army following mass demonstrations last month.
