One person was killed in Sharqiya and seven others were injured in Damietta in clashes that broke out on Friday during protests which the Muslim Brotherhood called for, said Ahmed al-Ansari, the Egyptian Ambulance Organization head.

In a statement it issued on Thursday, the National Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy backtracked on its call for demonstrating at Tahrir and Nahda squares.

"We urge (Friday's) marches to avoid areas where blood was shed, whether it's Tahrir or otherwise," the statement said.

In Damietta, seven were injured in clashes that involved an exchange of fire. They were transferred to a hospital for treatment.

The Ministry of Interior said earlier on Friday that the security situation in most governorates is stable.

It added that security forces in Damietta arrested six people whom it said were rioters who belong to the Brotherhood.
